Artisanal Chocolate Maker Sweetens its Business with Oracle NetSuite Social Impact

Social enterprise and Oracle NetSuite Social Impact customer software donation grantee Theo & Philo Chocolate Factory delights chocolate lovers with its selection of “bean to bar” artisanal chocolates, locally sourced and produced in the Philippines. As part of their social mission, Theo & Philo looks for ways to source ingredients responsibly and support local farmers.

Since its founding in 2010, the social enterprise has increased production by 700 percent to about 14,000 bars a month. With growth and complexity, Theo & Philo found itself struggling to manage the business with QuickBooks, Excel and manual processes.

“NetSuite is an integral part of our day-to-day operations and a scalable platform for our continued growth.” Theo & Philo

Philippine Social Enterprise Confronts Rapid Growth

Real-time insights in an integrated platform
Theo & Philo turned to NetSuite as an integrated platform to streamline accounting, inventory management, sales orders, invoicing and purchasing—work previously handled by company founder Philo Chua. With NetSuite, Theo & Philo now has automated workflows and an intuitive system that enabled Chua to delegate work across multiple people. Real-time data has also helped Theo & Philo tighten inventory controls and spot opportunities for improvement.
Business efficiency soars 75 percent
NetSuite helped Theo & Philo to improve end-to-end efficiency by approximately 75 percent, while expanding sales into Germany and Japan, using built-in currency conversions for international transactions. On-demand data access in the cloud speeds up the company’s processes compared to desktop applications, while eliminating the need for costly in-house IT systems.
Oracle NetSuite Social Impact partnership supports philanthropy
As a recipient of the NetSuite Suite Donation program, Theo & Philo aims to continuously strengthen its charitable partnership with Gawad Kalinga, a nonprofit that strives to improve the welfare of Filipinos. Continued growth means that Theo & Philo can expand its sourcing of raw cacao and other ingredients from Gawad Kalinga farming communities while employing Gawad Kalinga community members. Going forward, Theo & Philo has new scalability and agility to achieve goals of product diversification and entering new global markets.
