In 1967, British dairy farmer Peter Roberts became so concerned with the emergence of factory farming practices and the cruelty to animals that resulted that he decided to do something about it. The nonprofit he founded, Compassion in World Farming has since grown to become a global organisation focused on ending cruel factory farming practices and has helped to secure bans on battery cages for chickens and gestation cages for sows.
